Hear from one of our top speakers Vincent Annunziato | Director, Business Transformation & Innovation Division from the  U.S. Customs and Border Protection | U.S. Department of Homeland Security:

  1. How is your organisation applying blockchain?

CBP has partnered with DHS Science and Technology Directorate to reshape the way we do business in the future. Most of our work is dedicated to obtaining pre-arrival/pre-release information so that we can make earlier decisions on the security of a shipment and release it earlier in the process, thereby increasing facilitation.

  1. What were the biggest challenges, &/or benefits, in using blockchain technology?

The biggest challenge for any government entity is to keep the data secure. Determining what data goes on chain and what data stays off is something that government as well private sector will walk a fine line on but in terms of supply chain we still have to be mindful of trade secrets and personally identifiable information.

  1. What is your company’s roadmap for the rest of 2020 and what should we expect to see from your team in the next 12 months?

Please keep an eye on CBP as we are working several projects which have the potential to go into production.

  1. How are you seeing the rate of blockchain projects move from pilot to production? When do you think blockchain could become a mainstream technology?

I am seeing an increased rate of Blockchain products in the supply chain. Now that business people are more educated they are just starting to see what this tech can do for the industry. In my view, over the next 3-5 years we will see this technology as a mainstream tech.

  1. Who is your hero/mentor in this space: what lessons have you learned from them and how have you applied them in your career?

Most of my knowledge on the subject has been garnered by two people. Anil John from DHS and Manu Sporny from Digital Bazaar. These are consummate professionals who recognize the capabilities of this technology in a practical way and proactively pursue a more affordable and rapid approach to market adoption.

Our world series conferences are constantly evolving to meet the demands of our current global situation and the blockchain ecosystem. We hope to see you at the Blockchain Expo Europe taking place Virtually on 25-26th November 2020 and Blockchain Expo Global 17-18th March 2021 at Olympia London.
