Blockchain -

Could you define what your job role details and your day to day routine?

I am director and co-founder of StateZero Labs, the world’s first solution-led lab for blockchain applications. We provide capital, connections and community to help create the best environment for founders to thrive. My role is focused on our industry-leading three month business programme for startups, alongside developing our investor and community outreach, and the everyday running of a startup (which never ends!). I also focus on the overall strategy for the business alongside my co-founder Tazz Gault.

How is your organisation applying blockchain?

We are a blockchain accelerator, running a three-month programme for six startups twice a year. Although because of the high volume and high standard of this year’s applications, we have included a seventh company in our programme this time around. Our startups use blockchain to solve genuine business problems outside of cryptocurrency. Each one of these businesses is solution-led – it just so happens that blockchain helps them to facilitate this! Because our organisation promotes blockchain for business, we play a leading role in helping to educate the industry on the endless amazing use-cases for this technology outside of crypto.

What were the biggest challenges in using this technology?

StateZero doesn’t build the underlying technology, but we endorse it by empowering startups who are solving real-world problems with blockchain. Our biggest challenge is busting the myths surrounding blockchain and the misconception that it can only be used for cryptocurrency. It’s our mission to ensure that the industry recognises blockchain’s real potential to solve global business problems now.

What can we expect from your team in the next 12 months?

In the next twelve months StateZero will have completed two further cohorts, supporting 19 startups. We will be attending events all over the world to promote the endless possibility of blockchain technology, and we will be furthering our relationships with DCMS, BIMA, InnovateUK and many other exciting partners. We will also be leading the industry conversation around founder wellbeing by launching The Wellness Pledge, in partnership with leading venture capital firms in the UK.

What are you most looking forward to at the show?

The show will highlight blockchain’s diverse range use cases and I’m excited to hear the range of speakers on ‘Blockchain Solutions for Enterprise’. It’s going to be a fantastic opportunity to explore the variety of verticals that are adopting blockchain, and hear from some of the most active leaders in those industries.

Katie Mills will be speaking at Blockchain Expo Global. The event takes place on the 25-26th April 2019 at the Olympia Grand London.
